Global Tiger Day 2026: Roaring for the Future of the Sundarban

On 29 July 2026, the Progyan Foundation for Research and Innovation (PFRI), the research wing of the South Asian Forum for Environment (SAFE), in collaboration with the Sundarban Tiger Reserve (STR), observed Global Tiger Day at Sajnekhali, Sundarban.
The celebration engaged young participants through drawing, quiz, and extempore competitions, encouraging them to explore the ecological importance of the Royal Bengal Tiger and the Sundarban mangrove ecosystem. The programme connected wildlife conservation with youth participation and community responsibility.
Students from Gosaba R.R. Government Sponsored Institution participated in the competitions, with Trisha Das receiving first place in the Junior Group drawing competition and Krishnendu Baitya and Ritam Mandal securing second place in the quiz competition.
The programme reinforced PFRI’s belief that conservation begins with awareness and that informed young people can play an important role in safeguarding the Sundarban’s biodiversity and natural heritage.
