PFRI is actively involved in combating the intrusion of saltwater into arable lands, particularly in regions where saline soils threaten food security and livelihoods. The project is initiated in Kultali, Amtoli, Tiplighiri, and Kakdwip, the areas facing seawater inundation and severe storm surges during super cyclones in Sundarban. This float farming approach is a flagship project of UNDP also replicated in Saharsa, Bihar and Majuli Island of Assam. This is an integrated approach of climate-resilient agriculture, climate-resilient freshwater and brackishwater aquaculture and apiculture. The livelihood opportunities for endangered tribes of Sangti and Lower Dibang Valleys in Arunachal Pradesh are explored to a new paradigm of sustainability. The wholesome guidance of Climate information networking is leading a new horizon for water-stressed agriculture in the tribal belt of Purulia, and the flood-prone coastal belt of Indian Sundarban as well.
