ESIA

An Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) forecasts the environmental and social repercussions that a future project/intervention might entail. It is carried out before project implementation and proposes measures to mitigate potential negative impacts according to the environmental protection laws. The course introduces tools (such as social vulnerability indexing, resource mapping, participatory rural appraisal) used to support ESIA, ways of improving its effectiveness, and ways in which other techniques are used to investigate the environmental and social implications.
