Valuing wetland ecosystem services in the context of socio-economic well-being for marginal poor
Progyan Foundation for Research and Innovation, India has recently ventured to take stock of the non-RAMSAR wetlands across the Indian ecoregion spanning Eastern India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka. On the verge of World Wetland Day 2024, an international webinar was conducted on 2nd February emphasizing the theme ‘Wetland and Human Wellbeing’ with participants from South Asia (India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka) for discussion on the valuing of wetland ecosystem services in the context of socio-economic well-being for marginal poor and as well it's carbon sequestration potentials. The panel discussion and brainstorming session recommended that cross-sectoral research and trans-border policy framework for wetland conservation must be aligned with policy planning to ensure a sustainable impact.
The panel ambitiously proposed to develop a cross-country conservation consortium (Tetra-C) for wetlands and it's people. Soon Tetra-C will launch it's program priorities.
